Trip Recommendations

If you are planning a trip up to Erie to fish for steelhead, here are some recommended items:

Headlamp (plan on early starts)

Six - Eight weight rods , 10 foot rods work best

Quality reel with a good, smooth drag

2-5x Tippet, flourocarbon

Warm clothes.  Because of our location on the lake, we can get severe weather.  It is best to plan ahead, and dress in layers.  We recommend sythetic clothing, like Patagonia's capaline, or Simms waderwick.  Synthetic fabics will not loose their insulating properites when wet, and this can make the difference between being comfortable and being miserable.

At least two pairs of fingerless or foldover gloves.  One pair will get wet.  It always happens.  Having a fresh pair to put on during your lunch break will definitely be a bonus.

Warm hat.

An extra pair of warm fleece pants to put on in case of a "riverbath".

Good polarized glasses.  Many times we are sight fishing, and good glasses are indispensable.
